Thoughts

So it's about time I should start putting some material here. I'm going to try not to be "preachy," but I am a pastor so  I have to figure it out.

I'm attending a book study at the local UCC Church. The discussion right now is, is darkness always evil. It's given me a chance to think about this, and I guess I'm thankful for darkness. The first one I feel is obvious, if it didn't get dark I would have trouble sleeping. When I sleep or crawl into bed it also gives me time to reflect on the day that is ending. I've also heard that during sleep our dreams give us a chance to sort thru things and is also a way for our minds to clear things out.

With darkness we have something visual to help keep track of time, when it's dark the day is done. Darkness also has a way with beauty. If there wasn't dark, there wouldn't be beautiful sunrises, there wouldn't be full moons that fill up the sky, and there wouldn't be the millions of stars, planets, shooting stars, and northern lights to paint the sky.

Darkness in our lives is also something to be considered. Some eastern religions talk of balance, of "ying and yang."  I see some truth to this. How would it be possible to see and find goodness if there wasn't some "darkness." You can learn from life's darkness too. When you see it and recognize it you have the chance to change it or become aware of what it is and not do it; learning what is right and wrong.

The World is filled with Light and Darkness; learn from them. Everything has to start somewhere.

Three things could help this world a great deal; patience, understanding, and tolerance.

We all have different ideas and different beliefs; it is possible to learn from others even though you don't agree. You don't have to attack others to get your point across or to feel superior.

Religion should not be used as a weapon, but instead used as a device to heal and help.

I'm human and so are you.  We all make errors and mistakes, it's inevitable. I think it is more important how we deal with the mistakes themselves, but hey, I'm human, I could be wrong.
